Wee Cho Yaw retires as chairman and director of Singapore Land Group; Wee Ee Lim to become next chairman

After serving Singapore Land Group for slightly over three decades, 94-year-old Wee Cho Yaw is retiring from his position as chairman and director. On March 31, 2020, he will be stepping down from the role, which he was appointed to on June 26, 1992.

Upon retirement, Wee will be made chairman emeritus and honorary adviser of the group. He is also currently the chairman emeritus and honorary adviser of United Overseas Bank (UOB). Wee is a substantial shareholder of the group, and his son, Wee Ee Lim, a non-executive and non-independent director of the Senja Close EC group, will take his place as its new chairman.

Wee Ee Lim has been a part of the group since May 1999, when he was made an executive and non-independent director. He has also been president and CEO of Haw Par Corporation since October 2003.

On Feb 24, the day of Wee’s announcement, shares in Singapore Land Group increased to $2.34, closing 2 cents higher or 0.86% up. His departure marks the end of an era for the group, but his legacy remains, having been at the helm for over three decades.
