Eco Sanctuary
The Bukit Panjang town area is a residential area in the West Region of Singapore. It falls under the administrative jurisdiction of the Holland-Bukit Panjang Town Council, which oversees the management of HDB flats and commercial properties. Originally, it was a kampung. In the early 1980s, the area began to develop and flats began to be built. By 1989, the town had several neighbourhoods up and running. The area’s roads are named after the old kampung tracks.
SMRT’s Ten Mile Junction Depot
The Ten Mile Junction depot is a former elevated Light Rail Transit station in Bukit Panjang Town. It served the Bukit Panjang LRT line from November 1999 until 13 January 2019. The station was demolished on 13 January 2019.
Commercial buildings
Bukit Panjang Town is a suburban town in the western part of Singapore. Before the area was developed, it was known as Kampong Panjang. Initially, the area was planned to be called Zhenghua, but this name was dropped after public complaints. Development started in 1981 and HDB flats commenced to rise. By 20 May 1985, only Blocks 1 and 2 had been completed. But the name was soon reverted to Bukit Panjang.
Environmental impact assessment
The Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process is intended to measure the impacts of development projects on local ecosystems and critical resources. It provides crucial information that guides the design and modification of a construction activity, and helps to reduce unjustifiable environmental costs. The Singapore government first introduced the EIA framework in 2008, and since then, EIAs have become increasingly common. The process also provides more opportunities for stakeholders to provide feedback. However, since the EIA process is still voluntary, groups such as the Nature Society Singapore have struggled to get their voices heard. Five years ago, they voiced concerns over Mandai development plans, putting forward alternative project sites and mitigation measures, but received no substantive response from the developer.
